چکیده

The strength and deformation of full-scale adhesively bonded multi-material joints is studied in this paper. Four with a thick layer methyl methacrylate adhesive (MMA) have been manufactured shipyard conditions. In two specimens, cracks introduced at steel–adhesive composite–adhesive interfaces. One cracked one un-cracked specimen were subjected to quasi-static tensile testing; the remaining specimens stepwise loaded/unloaded increasing load until failure. strain layers was measured digital image correlation (DIC). This showed predominant shear dissimilar patterns for different bond lines. Fibre Bragg (FBG) sensors used monitor strains steel composite constituents detect onset evolution damage specimen. Strains by FBG correspond well DIC results nearby regions. All failed delamination panel near interface.

Failure Mechanisms of Adhesively Bonded Aluminium for Spacecraft Applications

The surface characteristics of an aluminium alloy treated with a commercial chromate pretreatment have been studied by SAM, EDX and XPS. XPS indicates that the chromium is present in the conversion coating as both Cr(III) and Cr(VI) species, and that other components are present at the conversion coating surface, some in a reduced form. The deposition of the chromate layer is compromised by the...

Design Analysis of Adhesively Bonded Structures

The existing analytical solutions for the peeling and shearing stresses in polymeric adhesively bonded structures are either too inaccurate or too complex for adoption by practicing engineers. This manuscript presents a closed-form solution that is reasonably accurate yet simple and concise enough to be adopted by practicing engineers for design analysis and exploration. Analysis of these conci...

Static analysis of adhesively bonded anchorages for CFRP tendons

In pre-stressed concrete structures, consideration is being given to replacing the steel tendons with CFRP rods. One of the challenges associated with this is to develop a suitable anchorage for the CFRP rods. A bonded anchorage was investigated, where the CFRP is potted in a steel tube using epoxy adhesive. Experimental static tests of different configurations were undertaken with failure occu...

Adhesively Bonded Composite Repairs in Marine Applications and Utility Model for Selection of Their Nondestructive Evaluation Adhesively Bonded Composite Repairs in Marine Applications and Utility Model for Selection of Their Nondestructive Evaluation Acknowledgements

During the last half century, the use of composite materials and structures has been increasing within many industries: aerospace, automotive, civil, marine, and railway engineering, wind power generation, and sporting goods, to name a few. There is, however, only a small open literature base concerning adhesively bonded composite repairs, primarily originating from within the aerospace industr...

Plastically-deforming, Adhesively-bonded Structures: I Experimental Studies

Rate effects for adhesively-bonded joints in steel sheets failing by mode-I fracture and plastic deformation were examined. Three types of test geometries were used to provide a range of crack velocities between 0.1 mm/s and 5000 mm/s: a DCB geometry under displacement control, a wedge geometry under displacement control, and a wedge geometry loaded under impact conditions. Two fracture modes w...
